IGP Tasks Promoted Officers on Commitment and Integrity

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced that over 10,000 police officers have been promoted since 2023 through a transparent, merit-based process. Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja during the decoration ceremony for the Police Officers of the Year 2023 and 2024, the IGP emphasized the Force’s commitment to professionalism and integrity. Egbetokun said the Police Force is entering a new era where excellence is rewarded and mediocrity has no place, stressing that accelerated promotion is now granted to outstanding officers based on merit, not influence.
He also took a swipe at critics of the ongoing police reforms, warning that disinformation campaigns on social media will not derail progress. The Inspector General of Police added that sustained provocations would be met with lawful consequences, affirming that the Nigeria Police Force is determined to evolve with or without the approval of detractors. The IGP reaffirmed that the portraits of awardees would be displayed at Force Headquarters and across zonal and state commands to inspire other officers. CSP Shaba Aliyu, Police Officer of the Year 2023, was promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police, while SP Sentome Obi, the 2024 recipient, was elevated to Chief Superintendent of Police. Their recognition followed a rigorous selection process that considered both performance and character.
